Local nonprofit specializing in affordable housing rebrands after 50 years to align with their mission: Affordable Housing Advocates
York Area Housing Group engaged LUMI to rename and rebrand. As a nonprofit that has served York County, Pennsylvania for over 50 years, it was time to reflect the renewed commitment of the organization to provide quality, affordable housing through a modern, current name and a bright, colorful branding toolkit. The York Area Housing Group name was confusing and not reflective of their work and mission. They were often confused with other local businesses with a similar name and needed to stand apart from the crowd. They wanted a name that instantly communicated what their organization does and stands for.
In cause-driven programs like York Area Housing Group, people are the embodiment of the brand. For this brand, renaming meant finding a literal, yet modern way of indicating that their team provides quality, affordable housing. Advocates are pioneers for reform and support causes. Hence, the literal “Affordable Housing” combined with “Advocates” was the best combination.
Advocates is a bold, powerful word so we wanted to pair the name with vivid, eye-catching colors.

When we combine the color palette with the new colors, fonts, and logo design, we’ve got just what we’re looking for. A renewed, yet timeless Affordable Housing Advocates’ brand.
After renaming and rebranding, we got to work on social media fundraising campaigns, print collateral (including an annual report and a 50 year celebration invitation), a website reskin, a video, and more.
Implementing the Affordable Housing Advocates’ branding, video, social media campaigns, and other print collateral we designed, we anticipate many life-changing housing options throughout York County. Recently, Affordable Housing Advocates received $500,000 in funding, just broke ground on a new home ownership opportunity, and purchased a dozen homes so that section 8 voucher holders were able to keep their homes!
